One of the things I was always particularly keen to do when embarking on the Wild Shropshire project, was to try to engage as many people as possible who either live, work or visit the county. The aim was simply of increasing their awareness of the wildlife and wild places we are lucky to have around us here and just how important it is to support the work of organisations like Shropshire Wildlife Trust, and the many other voluntary bodies who like them work towards the proactive development of them.
It’s also one of the motivations behind the array of talks/slideshows I’m currently doing, the exhibition that will be heading off round the county in the Sporing of 2012 and the photography competition next year too which will hopefully encourage people to seek some personal interaction of their own in search of new images.
It was therefore a real bonus to get the opportunity to work with Wrekin Housing Trust to provide the images and theme to the 2012 calendar that they send to all of their residents – and this spreads far wider than just the Telford area itself with tenants in Oswestry, Bridgnorth, Shrewsbury, Ellesmere, Market Drayton and Whitchurch as well as some across the border in Staffordshire too!
There’s a new image every month and every one is new in as much as they are not repeating any of the material in the book itself, so if you’re a resident who’s received a copy I hope you like it (and please let me know) and if you aren’t but no someone who might have received a copy then you’ve got an extra reason to pop round for a cup of tea once a month now!
Many thanks too to Beverley and Sara for the opportunity and their additional support for The Trust itself as well.
